An Important Devotional Object Dedicated To The Sacred Heart And The Passion Of Christ – 19th Century

A rare and spectacular devotional object dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Instruments of the Passion, dating from the second half of the 19th century.

The centerpiece features a large translucent red glass heart, set in a gilded brass frame. It is surrounded by a remarkable openwork design forming a stylized crown of thorns, entirely studded with red and colorless glass stones set in claws.

The composition extends downward to include several symbols of the Passion of Christ, among them a ladder, as well as various crossed instruments evoking the Arma Christi.

The piece rests on an elegant gilded metal base with a circular base, giving it a particularly decorative and theatrical presence. Given its large size and rich decoration, this object was likely intended to adorn an altar, a chapel, or a space for private devotion, and may have once been displayed under a glass dome.

In good condition, gilding worn in places, 3 or 4 stones missing.
