18th-century Tabernacle Door

A curved, carved-wood tabernacle door featuring a high-relief decoration of a worshiping angel standing on a pedestal and holding up a radiant halo symbolizing the Eucharistic presence. The composition, marked by great simplicity, powerfully illustrates the liturgical iconography characteristic of 18th-century sacred art.
The work retains its original polychrome paint in shades of gray and white, accented by traces of the original gilding—now partially faded with age—which highlight the molded frame, the rays of the halo, and certain details of the angel’s garment. This natural wear and tear is an integral part of the piece’s authentic character and bears witness to its former use in worship.
