19th-century Flemish Cross In Gold, Silver, And Rose-cut Diamonds
Flemish Cross in Gold, Silver, and Rose-Cut Diamonds – 19th Century
Category: Antique Jewelry / Regional Jewelry
Period: 19th century (ca. 1850–1880)
Style: Regional Jewelry (Normandy / Flanders)
Condition: Excellent condition
A superb Flemish cross (also known as a “butterfly” cross) consisting of three articulated elements, a regional piece of great finesse dating from the second half of the 19th century.
This traditional piece consists of a flared upper section with openwork scrolls, a central diamond-shaped section, and a lower pendant. The structure, crafted from guilloché-engraved and hand-cut silver, is delicately accented with yellow gold floral appliqués, creating an elegant two-tone contrast.
The piece is adorned with rose-cut diamonds set in closed settings and on closed prongs (a characteristic of antique silver settings on a gold background), lending it a soft, authentic sparkle.
On the reverse, the upper element retains its two original loops for threading a velvet ribbon through, as was customary when wearing it around the neck.
Technical specifications:
Metal: Silver and yellow gold elements (18 karat / 750‰)
Stones: Rose-cut diamonds
Structure: Articulated in 3 parts
Setting: Bezel-set on closed prongs
Fastening: Loops for ribbon on the back
Dimensions: 7 cm x 4 cm
Gross weight: 15.9 g
In very fine condition. The piece has not undergone any excessive modern restoration, retaining all of its period patina and the freshness of its craftsmanship. The joints are in perfect condition.
