Pierre BOUDET (1915–2011) – Boats on the Beach at Tossa de Mar (or the Mediterranean Coast) – Oil on canvas
Pierre BOUDET (1915–2011)
20th-Century French School / School of Paris
A superb oil on canvas depicting a sun-drenched seaside scene on the Mediterranean coast. The painting features two traditional fishing boats beached in the foreground on the sand, in front of a beach bustling with swimmers, with a rocky outcrop topped by a medieval tower in the background (evoking the town of Tossa de Mar or the Catalan/Mediterranean coasts he loved).
Here, the artist displays his luminous, Impressionist style, executed with great mastery of the medium and contrasts of light.
Technique: Oil on canvas
Signature: Signed lower right “Pierre Boudet”
Condition: Excellent condition.
Framing: Presented in its original American-style / Marie-Louise frame with blue fabric and a gilded mold, which enhances the canvas’s colors.
Pierre Boudet (1915–2011), a French painter and lithographer associated with the École de Paris, was a student of Jean-Gabriel Domergue. Known for his seascapes and views of Paris, Normandy, the French Riviera, and Spain, he notably won the First Grand Prix of Tossa de Mar in 1964. His works are held in several public collections (notably at the Musée Lambinet in Versailles) and listed in the Bénézit.
Dimensions without frame: 72 cm / 60 cm.
With frame: 101 cm / 87 cm.
