A magnificent, large-scale Post-Impressionist composition created by the French painter Charles Chardar (1885–1969) in 1962.
This oil on canvas offers a panoramic bird’s-eye view of a light-drenched southern landscape. In the foreground, a rocky terrain depicts the Provençal garrigue with impasto and textural depth, guiding the eye through the trees toward a hilltop village dominated by its bell tower. The color palette is vibrant, blending the ochres of the harvested fields, the deep greens of the olive trees and cypresses, and the soft blue of the hills on the horizon beneath a cloudy sky.
The work is distinguished by a highly structured, generous, and masterful touch applied with a palette knife and brush—characteristic of the artist’s assertive, mature style.
