Valmont De Bomare - Dictionary Of Natural History - 15 Volumes - 1800

Artist: Jean Christophe Valmont De Bomare
Jean Christophe Valmont De Bomare
A Comprehensive and Universal Dictionary of Natural History, containing the history of animals, plants, and minerals; that of celestial bodies, meteorites, and the principal phenomena of nature; as well as their uses in medicine, domestic and rural economy, the arts and crafts.
New edition based on the fourth edition, revised and extensively annotated by the author.

Lyon, published by Bruyset aîné et compagnie, Year VII – 1800
Complete set of its 15 volumes, preserved in their original, uniform bindings.
Speckled sheepskin bindings, smooth spines adorned with gold motifs, title label and volume number in red leather.
Marbled edges and marbled endpapers.

Jean Christophe de Bomare, a French naturalist born in Rouen in 1731, contributed through this work to the dissemination of knowledge regarding zoology, botany, mineralogy, meteorology, and various natural phenomena.
This 15-volume edition is the most comprehensive version of his dictionary.

The set shows signs of wear, scuffing, and chipping on the bindings, wear on the caps and corners, partially faded gilding, and some damage to the title labels and volume number labels.
Some pages have scattered foxing and stains.
The pages and quires remain firmly bound within the volumes, with the exception of the first leaf of Volume 1, which is fragile, as shown in the photo.
There is an old bookseller’s label on one endpaper and some annotations.
