Antique English Pin Cushion, Solid Silver, Bulldog Adie & Lovekin Birmingham 1911

A charming and highly decorative English solid silver pin cushion featuring a bulldog, crafted by the famous silversmiths Adie & Lovekin Ltd. of Birmingham.

The bulldog is beautifully sculpted and full of character, with particular attention paid to the expressive head, the paws, and the wide collar. The pin cushion is built into the dog’s back. These figurative pin cushions, known in English as “novelty pin cushions,” were a specialty of Birmingham silversmiths and are now sought after by collectors.

The silver bears the English hallmarks for sterling silver, Birmingham, with the date letter “M” for 1911, as well as the maker’s mark of Adie & Lovekin Ltd.

The black cushion has been restored. There is a small crack in the silver on the upper part, near the tail. Otherwise, the piece shows normal signs of age and use, as visible in the photographs.
