Large Porcelain Dish With A Coat Of Arms, In The Style Of Chinese Export Porcelain, Attributed To Edmé Samsom

A large, richly decorated French porcelain platter, attributed to Edmé Samson & Co. in Paris and made in the second half of the 19th century.

Samson was renowned for its high-quality porcelain, crafted in the style of significant historical European and Asian productions. This platter is inspired by 18th-century Chinese export porcelain from the Qianlong period.

In the center is a large double alliance coat of arms, flanked by a red lion and a golden bear serving as heraldic supporters. The two shields are surmounted by their own helmets and crests. We have been unable to identify with certainty the families represented by this coat of arms.

The wide border is particularly richly decorated in the “famille rose” color scheme, with cobalt blue and gold highlights. Among the floral ornaments are three large Chinese-style cartouches depicting various scenes, including waterfowl in a landscape as well as precious objects and Chinese vases.

With its substantial diameter of 37.4 cm, this is a large, particularly imposing decorative platter. The reverse bears no markings.

Condition:
Good decorative condition and authentic given its age. Two old cracks extend from the outer rim toward the center of the platter. Other normal signs of use and age are present. The two cracks and the overall condition are clearly visible in the detailed photographs.
