Antique French Ciborium By Favier Frères—silver And Gilded Bronze Bowl

This large French ciborium was crafted by Favier Frères, goldsmiths in Lyon. The silver bowl bears the French Minerva 1 hallmark, corresponding to the first fineness (950/1000), as well as the master’s mark—a diamond-shaped emblem with the letters “FF” separated by a sun. The base, stem, and lid are made of gilded bronze.

The rounded bowl is richly engraved. Alternating bands of crosses and floral rosettes frame a wider frieze of vine leaves and grape clusters. Fine lines in the background highlight the design. The smooth interior of the bowl is gilded. The domed lid features a matching design and is topped with a cross.

The multi-lobed base is also adorned with crosses and flowers. Its pointed, oval, silver-plated medallions depict religious figures, including Christ and the Virgin Mary. Their silver color contrasts with the gilding.

Condition: very good overall condition. There is a welded repair under the stem, with some localized wear to the gilding. It is barely visible when the ciborium is displayed upright.
