Louis XV Chest Of Drawers, Stamped “françois Garnier,” 18th Century

Artist: François Garnier

Louis XV-era chest of drawers stamped “François Garnier”

An elegant Louis XV-era chest of drawers, made of precious wood veneer, richly inlaid with geometric motifs featuring curls and butterfly wings, accented with light-colored wood fillets.

The front features four drawers arranged in three rows, with the two upper drawers separated by a central divider.
The drawer fronts display particularly meticulous marquetry, enlivened by interlacing lines and panels of contrasting wood.

The chest of drawers rests on an elegant scroll-cut base ending in four curved legs, adorned with gilded bronze finials and spurs.
The sides are also inlaid with geometric panels.

The front is embellished with extensive gilded bronze Rocaille-style trim, including pull handles, lock plates, finials, and corner ornaments, creating a particularly rich and harmonious design.

It is topped by a gray marble top veined with white, molded and featuring a corbin-style edge, elegantly following the contours of the front.

The piece as a whole demonstrates fine cabinetmaking craftsmanship, particularly in the execution of the marquetry and the selection of veneers.

Marked: François Garnier, Parisian cabinetmaker who became a master in 1743.
