Louis XVI Chest Of Drawers After A Model By J. F. Leleu
Exceptional Louis XVI-style commode, after a model by Jean-François Leleu
Elegant commode with slightly curved front and sides, made in the taste of the great Parisian cabinetmakers of the late 18th century, after a model attributed to Jean-François Leleu (1729-1807), master cabinetmaker to the King and one of the most illustrious exponents of the Louis XVI style.
Leleu's models are distinguished by their architectural lines, perfect symmetry and the refined quality of their gilded bronzes.
This chest of drawers is veneered in a rich flame mahogany with deep shades, highlighted by a delicate framing of bronze and light wood fillets.
It opens on the front with three drawers: a long drawer in the waistband and two wide drawers with no visible rails, offering a remarkable purity of line.
The fronts are adorned with chased and gilded bronzes decorated with rosettes, keyholes and corner falls with foliate motifs, in the neoclassical spirit typical of the reign of Louis XVI.
The fluted uprights, framed side panels, tapered legs ending in bronze sabots and discreet guilloche ornamentation bear witness to high-quality work inspired by Parisian production in the late 19th or early 20th century. The top is topped with an elegant white veined marble, molded and cut into a projecting shape, bringing light and nobility to the ensemble.
The balance of the proportions, the richness of the mahogany and the finesse of the bronzes give this piece a remarkable presence, equally at home in a classic interior or in a contemporary setting where it will play the role of a collector's item.
