The Oedipus theme is a recurring motif in Cocteau’s work. From La Machine Infernale (1934) to his final film Le Testament d’Orphée (1960), Cocteau continually reinterpreted the Greek tragedy. Cocteau explores the melancholic phase of the myth: that of the blind, fallen Oedipus, supported by his daughters Antigone and Ismene. A moving drawing with strong symbolic significance.
