Farrier's And Veterinarian's Tool Kit, Bronze And Metal, France, 19th Century
Farrier’s or veterinarian’s tool kit with 4 metal blades, in a bronze case. Blades marked “Tabourin.” France, 19th century. In very good condition, with a beautiful bronze patina and a lovely antique patina on the blades.
A kit is generally a collection of objects of the same type. This kit, intended for the care of animals (cattle, horses, foals), consists of four blades. Three blades called “flamme” (a flat, blunt blade with a short, wide blade at its tip) and a lancet (a scalpel used to lance abscesses).
After making the animal’s vein swell, the flamme is pressed against it; it is then tapped with a small mallet on the back, causing it to enter the vein.
