"blind Love" Clock, Attributed To Deverberie, Empire Period.

A beautiful gilded bronze clock from the Empire period, depicting a poetic and neoclassical allegory: “Love Guided by Fidelity” or “Blind Love.”
As is customary, Eros (Cupid) is depicted as a young, winged child with a naked body, blindfolded in this piece.
He carries the clockwork mechanism on his shoulders and holds a leash attached to a dog in his right hand.
The dog, a classic symbol of fidelity, walks ahead of Cupid and holds in its mouth the torch of Hymen (a sacred flame representing ardent union, purity, and the light guiding the spouses toward a happy and lasting home).
The white enamel dial with Roman numerals is surrounded by a guilloché bezel in chased bronze.
The top of the case is crowned with Cupid’s bow, a quiver, and a wreath of flowers.
An ovoid base rests on spinning-top feet.
The front is adorned with an openwork frieze featuring foliage scrolls framing a central medallion depicting Eros playing with his torch.
Superb original mercury gilding with alternating matte and glossy finishes (particularly visible on the wings, the chiseled details of the dog’s coat, and the drapery).
String-wound movement in perfect working order, serviced by a master clockmaker.
This model is attributed to the bronze castor Jean-Simon Deverberie (1764–1824). An original drawing very similar to this model, created by Deverberie around 1798–1800, is preserved in the Print Room of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BNF).
Superb overall condition.
