Pair Of "wire" Chairs By Harry Bertoia For Knoll (vintage Edition, Brass Soldered Joints)

The Les Merciers Gallery is pleased to present a great classic of American modernist design: a pair of "Wire" chairs, designed by sculptor Harry Bertoia in 1952 and produced by Knoll.

True sculptures composed of air and steel, these chairs showcase Bertoia’s genius for working with wire, creating a seat that is at once transparent, lightweight, and incredibly sturdy. The pair comes with its original seat pads (one red, the other blue), secured with clamps and bearing the “Knoll” monogram on the reverse side.

Condition and Authenticity (Patina Report):This pair is an authentic, historic vintage edition, preserved “as-is.” It features an exceptional patina that attests to its age and authenticity. Surface oxidation is minimal, but the original black finish has naturally worn away at friction points over the decades.

This wear and tear spectacularly reveals the golden hints of brass used for the solder at the joints (a technique characteristic of early Knoll editions). The result is a vibrant, industrial patina—absolutely ideal for purists and collectors of vintage design in its most authentic state.
