Enormous 18th-century Rouen wine taster made of solid silver, featuring a plain, bulbous design, with the rim engraved with "M Anne Huard". Cut-out thumb rest with a beautiful engraving depicting a cherub (with a quiver and arrows) playing a musical instrument, a bird in a net, all surmounted by the engraving " WHOEVER COSTS ME IS CAUGHT " framed by flowers. Hallmarks: Master’s Mark (Crowned B) and Assay Mark (squirrel) for ROUEN 1744–50, Common Guild hallmark for large pieces from ROUEN 1747 (Crowned L) and hallmarks (on the body, handle, and ring) of Master Goldsmith Jean I CLAVIER (hallmark with the initials “JC” and the Lamb of God).
