Granelly: Heavy Solid Silver Wine Taster, Normandy, 145g, Saint-lô, 1774
Museum quality. Extremely rare and heavy Norman wine taster in solid silver from the rare Saint-Lô mint, plain model with handle featuring facing serpents (an atypical model with very short attachments, see photos front and back). Engraved rim "F CHOUDEY". A well-hallmarked piece on the body and handle, bearing the Charge and Discharge marks of the sub-farmer of Saint-Lô 1768-75 (listed in Helft, page 117, ref. 313), the Town Hall mark for Saint-Lô 1774, and the hallmarks of the Master Goldsmith Alexandre-Joseph GRANELLY or Granelli (IG and unicorn/hallmark for medium-sized pieces not listed in Cassan), registered in 1772. An extremely rare and heavy Norman wine-tasting cup from the exceptionally well-hallmarked Saint-Lô mint, with a beautiful patina and minor scratches from use.
