"Lamoureux: Large Norman Wine Taster In Solid Silver, 145 G, Rouen 1772"
Enormous Norman wine taster in solid silver with a bulbous body. The characteristic thumb rest is cut out and engraved with a cherub holding a gourd in one hand and a flaming heart in the other, all surmounted by the engraving "UN SEUL ME SUFFIT" (One is enough for me). The rim is engraved "Mr Mme Delhotel" on one side and crossed out "Pierre Binard" on the other. It bears the Rouen hallmarks for 1768-75, the Rouen town hall mark for 1772 (a crowned N), and the hallmark attributed (on the thumb rest) to the master silversmith Mathieu Lamoureux, admitted in 1763. This enormous Rouen wine taster is in very good condition with beautiful engraving and well-marked; an exceptional size at 145 grams. For the discerning collector...
