Hanau, Circa 1890 – Pair Of 925-th Solid Silver Planters

Hanau, circa 1890 – Pair of 925 sterling silver planters with original blue crystal

Description

An elegant pair of small planters made of 925 sterling silver, crafted in Hanau, Germany, circa 1890, and retaining their original cobalt-blue crystal interiors.

These oval-shaped planters feature particularly intricate silver mountings, each resting on four gracefully curved legs decorated with rocaille and foliage motifs.

The frames are distinguished by their richly ornate openwork decoration, consisting of volutes, leafy scrolls, latticework, and floral motifs. At the center of each side, a rocaille cartouche is framed by two winged putti, integrated into a symmetrical decorative composition.

The openwork design allows the deep blue of the crystal interiors to shine through, creating a contrast between the colored transparency of the glass and the brilliance of the silver.

The lower sections of the frames are accented by a finely striated frieze, while the feet extend the rocaille and foliage decoration.

The presence of the two original blue crystal interiors is a key feature of this set. Perfectly suited to the frames, they contribute fully to the aesthetic balance of the planters and highlight the delicacy of their openwork decoration.

The frames bear the Hanau hallmarks, as well as the complete set of English import hallmarks, which were added later.

With their compact proportions and rich ornamentation, these two planters form a particularly attractive decorative set, suitable for display on a table, a console table, or in a silverware display case.
