Rare Melun-style stew spoon in solid silver from the Louis XVI period, featuring a plain, flat design. The shank is marked in small letters with "V.D.P.". Hallmarks of charge (numerical JG) and discharge (rooster’s head) for small items from the Jurisdiction of PARIS 1781–89, Common Mark for MELUN 1784 (eel with the date “84”) and the hallmark of Master Goldsmith Eloi-Etienne LANGLOIS, who was licensed to practice in Paris in 1777 and obtained the right to transfer his business to Melun in 1778. Rare Melun-style stew spoon in good overall condition and well hallmarked, with a dent on the bowl and normal wear scratches.
