Antonio Pandiani (Italian 1838-1928), A rare smaller version of “Rigoletto Milano”, possibly a maquette, the minstrel playing a theorbo lute, extremely finely cast and finished, with exceptionally fine chasing and detailing throughout. Signed to base “A. Pandiani, Milano”.

Condition: Very good. Very slight bend to the neck of the theorbo. Tiny loss to the top of one of the tuning keys of the lower section of the neck of the instrument.
Biography: Antonio Pandiani (Milan, 1838-1928) was a sculptor from the famous artistic family of the Pandiani of Milan, together with his brother Costantino (1837-1922), and Giovanni (1809-1879), also a neoclassical sculptor. A devotee of the Lombard neoclassical style, he exhibited often at exhibitions organised by the Brera Academy, where he became a teacher of sculpture, and was appointed head of the foundry in 1886. A sculptor with a lively academic style, Pandiani was best known for his many portraits, such as the bronze bust of Alessandro Manzoni (collection of the GAM in Milan) and of Queen Victoria, dated 1890 (Anglesey Abbey, The Fairhaven Collection, The National Trust).
