Cain, Georges Jules Auguste French, 19th–20th century, male. Born April 14, 1856, in Paris; died March 4, 1919, in Paris. Painter, illustrator. Historical painting, figure compositions, genre scenes. Son of the sculptor Auguste Nicolas Cain and a student of Cabanel, Vilbert, and Edouard Detaille, Georges Cain exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon between 1878 and 1900, receiving an honorable mention in 1881. He won a bronze medal at the 1889 World’s Fair and was subsequently appointed curator of the Musée Carnavalet.
