Naval officers’ saber from the First Empire, based on the Plairial regulation of Year XII.
Guard and fittings in gilded bronze; blackened, fluted wooden hilt; crossguard decorated with the Navy anchor on a bundle of flags and a radiant sun; curved single-edged blade, blued and gilded on one-third of its length; wooden scabbard covered with black shagreen (visible slit), with three bronze and gilded fittings decorated with a mermaid, palmettes, and reeds.
