Senior Officer's Sword - France, First Empire

Senior officer's sword - France, First Empire. Asymmetrical gilt bronze hilt adorned with a trophy of arms. Checkered ebony grip. Pommel slightly inclined forward, decorated at the base with a winged thunderbolt from which four lightning bolts emanate. Guard branch decorated with foliage and a lion's mask. Single-edged Solingen blade with fullers. The ferrule on the grip above the hilt is broken (see photo). The mount has some play, but the sword is otherwise sound. Weight 482g. Length 92cm. Blade length 79cm.
