"Percussion Rifle - North Africa, 19th Century"
Percussion Rifle - North Africa, 19th Century. A handsome short rifle assembled from various European rifle components, its stock decorated with brass nails. The barrel is marked "Merley Cart???", the last letters are worn away, but it is likely a reference to Merley-Carteron, a well-known gunsmithing family in Saint-Étienne (France) during the 18th and 19th centuries. Silver thumbplate. The barrel is octagonal for the first half, then round to the muzzle. Good mechanical condition, lockplate functional. Minor damage and losses to the stock. I can't get the baguette out. I didn't want to force it because I think it's purely for aesthetic purposes and it's short. Length 103 cm, Barrel length 63 cm, Weight approximately 2510 g
