Antique Poplar And Walnut Door Panels With Lozenges, Tuscany 17th C.
Pair of antique door panels in "gattice" white poplar wood, each framed by a moulded perimeter surround in walnut. At the centre, a double-moulded lozenge encloses a turned walnut boss with concentric ring detailing. A typical example of Tuscan craftsmanship, in which two woods of contrasting tone — the pale natural poplar and the warmer hue of the walnut — are combined to create a refined two-tone effect. The panels retain their original lock and, to the reverse, show a plank construction with a through cross-batten. Tuscan provenance, 17th century. Width 182 cm, height 140 cm.
