Antique Walnut And Rosewood Veneered Commode, Liguria, Genoa, 18th Century

Antique chest of four drawers/commode in walnut and rosewood, embellished with fine "herringbone" veneer arranged in a sunburst pattern across each drawer front, creating an elegant play of grain. The sides are veneered in a mirrored, book-matched pattern. The base features a serpentine, shaped front and sides, while the top, with rounded corners, follows the piece's line with a gentle central curve. The escutcheons and handles complete the front with their refined craftsmanship. The chest retains its original period locks, while the backboard, drawer bottoms, and handles date from a later period. The piece is in excellent condition and stands as an elegant example of Ligurian cabinetmaking.
