Victorian Rosewood Campaign Writing Slope With Working Key & Secret Drawers

A substantial Victorian rosewood writing slope dating from around 1860–1880, retaining its original working key, brass campaign-style mounts and three concealed drawers.

The richly figured rosewood exterior is enhanced by brass corner mounts, straps, a decorative brass cartouche and matching escutcheon, giving the box excellent decorative appeal whether displayed open or closed.

The fitted interior includes the original burgundy writing surface, stationery compartments and hidden drawers beneath the writing surface. Despite signs of long use, the writing slope remains a charming decorative antique with beautiful colour and character.

Originally designed as a portable writing desk for travel, it now makes an attractive addition to a study, library or period interior.
