Antique Polychrome Majolica Plate, Made By Antonibon, Bassano

Artist: Manufacture Antonibon, Nove Di Bassano (vénétie), Milieu Du Xviiie Siècle (vers 1745-1765)
Antonibon Manufactory, Nove di Bassano (Veneto), Mid-18th century (ca. 1745–1765)
Decorative plate
Polychrome majolica, Ø 34 cm

Elegant polychrome majolica plate characterized by a wavy profile and a slightly undulating, mixed-line rim. The surface is coated with a brilliant white tin-glaze, upon which a refined polychrome floral and phytomorphic decoration unfolds. The composition features large corollas in rust-red and orange tones, accompanied by green leafy branches and groups of fantastical fruits or stylized plant elements in shades of blue, manganese, and ochre.
The decorative scheme, airy and asymmetrical, leaves large areas of white visible, in keeping with a style typical of Nove in the mid-18th century. The thin blue fillet that follows the undulating rim helps accentuate the elegance of the profile.
The plate can be attributed to the production of the famous Antonibon manufactory in Nove di Bassano, the undisputed leader of 18th-century Venetian ceramics. Under the direction of Pasquale Antonibon (who managed the factory from 1738 to 1775), the factory developed an original decorative style that blended French, Central European, and Eastern influences with the Italian tradition of majolica. The typical Antonibon palette features olive green, cobalt blue, yellows, and the characteristic rusty red known in the literature as "Antonibon red."
Condition
Good overall condition consistent with the age of the piece; normal signs of use and minor firing imperfections typical of 18th-century production.
