Gorilla

A "gorilla head" mask in the tradition of objects associated with Ngui/Ngi societies (Central Africa, Fang/Bulu zone), although a precise attribution cannot be confirmed.

The piece stands out for its powerful, deliberately stylized volumes: hollowed out orbits, prominent snout, apparent dentition composed of attached elements. The overall effect is one of singular, almost totemic presence.

The structure shows handwork, with a shaped, compressed base and various surface irregularities testifying to craftsmanship. Traces of assembly and fastening are visible, reinforcing the object's authenticity.

The surface shows a consistent patina of use, with wear, abrasions and variations in shade, consistent with a certain age. A slight crack on the left side (see photo)

Although its exact use has not been established, this piece may fit into a context of cultural performance or use for cultic purposes.

Some features may evoke productions from Africa (as in Cameroon, for example) or of African inspiration.

It will easily find its place in a cabinet of curiosity.
