Late IV Bc. J.-c. - Bell-shaped Krater - Apulian Workshop (greater Greece)
Very rare large red-figure bell crater (H: 29.3 cm).
Great Greece. This crater comes from an Apulian workshop towards the end of the IVᵉ century B.C. (appraised by D. Lebeurrier, expert in archaeology).
On the first side, we observe a standing woman presenting a large tray in front of an Eros Thanatos seated on rocks and holding a mirror as well as a tambourine.
The other side presents two standing beardless men, arranged facing each other.
Under the handles are painted radiating palmettes. The scene is framed by a band of laurel leaves and a band of meanders.
This witness of Antiquity shows ancient restorations that do not alter the finesse of the motifs.
To be put in perspective with the crater (-430 / -420 BC) in the Antiquities Department of the Louvre (accession number: CA 307, catalog number: G 496).
