Period: 2nd – 1st century BC Origin: Necropolis of La Catalane, Les Baux-de-Provence (Southern Gaul) Provenance: Brunet Collection (no. 13), previously acquired before 1973 Campanian cup with black varnish, Lamboglia A6 typology, complete, from the funerary furniture of the protohistoric necropolis of La Catalane. This elegant shape, characterized by its wide profile and internal wheel-thrown decoration, is emblematic of tableware imported from Italy, used both in banquets and as funerary deposits. Description: • Material: orange-brown paste. • Shape: wide cup with open profile, narrow reserved foot. • Decoration: two internal concentric grooves traced on the wheel. • Surface: shiny black coating covering the entire piece, except for the underside of the reserved foot with burrs; wear and flaking visible on the varnish. • Technical traces: fingerprints around the foot and on the side, visible turning flats.
