Officer's Sword France, Circa 1790.
- Rare and elegant senior staff officer's sword retaining the remarkable craftsmanship characteristic of prestige weapons of the late Ancien Régime.
The mount is bronze with a beautiful antique patina. The finely cast pommel adopts the shape of an empanelled helmet, an emblematic typology of officer's swords from the second half of the XVIIIᵉ century. The wooden handle is entirely filigree with fine double silver thread with its bishop caps also in silver, preserved in a very fine state of freshness.
The hilt features an elegant, symmetrical lyre-shaped bivalve top, with its gilding at 80 %, gilding wear at handling points.
The central gutter blade with its original tie, 82.4 cm long, retains at 90 % its gilding and bluing on its first third. It is decorated with scrolls and a stylized fleur-de-lys.
The whole presents a very fine visual presence, with a particularly elegant and balanced silhouette typical of staff swords of this pivotal period between Ancien Régime and Revolution.
