Rare Officer's Saber With A Twisted Hilt From The Late Reign Of Louis XVI, Featuring A Royalist Emblem
A rare mounted officer's saber with a swiveling guard, dating from the late reign of Louis XVI, which likely belonged to a royalist officer who fought during the Counter-Revolutionary Wars.
Based on the original decoration painted on the blade, imitating a gilded blue finish, the sword can be attributed.
One side is inscribed with “vengeur” and the other with “des Louis.”
I deliberately chose to preserve this saber in its original condition, except for the removal of the old storage grease that surrounded the blade.
