Louis XVI period (1774-1789) officer's sword of a Chasseur à Cheval (light cavalryman), 18th century. Brass hilt, flat pommel with inlaid lines and an oval rivet button, long tang decorated with lines. The knuckle guard is decorated with lines, widening considerably near the pommel and forming a right angle with the crossguard, which forms the quillons in curvilinear lozenges decorated with lines. Straight quillon ending in a faceted button. Grip entirely filigreed with copper wire and twisted copper wire chains. Remnant of a scarlet wool tie at the ricasso. Curved white blade with a fuller and flat back with a pointed false edge. Scabbard missing. Length: 96 cm. Blade length: 81.5 cm. Blade width at the ricasso: 3.8 cm.
