Empire-period Bas-relief In Repoussé Copper -
Charming bas-relief in repoussé copper, Empire style and period, depicting a scene inspired by Jean de La Fontaine's fable: "Le Loup devenu berger".
The composition depicts with great relief and narration the moment when the wolf, disguised as a shepherd, tries to approach the flock. We can make out the false shepherd, his staff, the sheep, the dog and the real shepherd asleep, all elements that make the reading of the scene particularly lively despite the small format.
The copper work repels the wolf's disguise.
The repoussé copper work is fine and decorative, with a frame richly decorated with plant motifs and foliage in the Empire taste. The ensemble has a beautiful, warm and nuanced antique patina, with very satisfactory conservation.
The theme is particularly striking.
The theme is particularly interesting and uncommon. La Fontaine's fables are more readily encountered in engraving or printed illustration; their transposition in repoussé copper on a small antique decorative object seems distinctly rarer.

On the back, presence of its antique hanging system allowing wall display.
