F. Barbedienne - Gilt Bronze Hand Candlestick With Antique Decoration, 19th Century Napoleon III
Gilt bronze hand dagger signed F. Barbedienne, with antique-inspired decoration.
The handle is formed by an elegant eagle neck, while the tap receives a bearded mask treated in the Greco-Roman taste. The lid of the central compartment is adorned with a finely chiseled grotesque mask.
This small closed receptacle was intended to hold phosphorus matches, sealing wax sticks or various accessories related to the use of light.
Beautiful quality of casting and chasing. The original gilding shows some wear in keeping with the age and use of the object.
