Monumental “amphora” Turn-teplitz Art Nouveau Pottery Vase, C. 1895–1910
A monumental Austrian “Amphora” pottery vase, produced in Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, circa 1895–1910. At 51 cm high, this is an unusually large and visually commanding example from Amphora’s finest artistic years.
Its tall flaring silhouette, sculptural base, and sweeping openwork handles are enhanced by a remarkable pierced olive-green collar requiring extensive hand-finishing. Stylised scrollwork, foliate ornament, suspended teardrop details, and moulded relief decoration create a rich sculptural surface.
The ivory, olive, rose-brown, and gilt palette reflects Amphora’s premium decorative production. The underside bears the Amphora crown mark with AUSTRIA and model number 12000.
Founded by Alfred Stellmacher, Amphora became internationally celebrated for luxury artistic ceramics, winning major exhibition awards and reaching elite export markets. Monumental examples such as this remain especially desirable for collectors seeking scale, craftsmanship, and strong Art Nouveau design.
A rare display-grade piece with exceptional presence and technical sophistication.
