This is a magnificent engraving by Henri Callot, more precisely an aquatint, which is an etching in color, and was one of Callot's favorite techniques; for Callot produced many of them, most of them on the Île d'Yeu and La Rochelle. He excelled in this technique, as they are always of high quality.
Here you can see toniers in the port of Ile d'Yeu, I think it's a very small print as I haven't found any etching corresponding to this one.
Eugène Henri Callot, born December 20, 1875 in La Rochelle, and died December 22, 1956 in Paris 14e, was a French painter and fencer.
Member of an old La Rochelle family, Henri Callot was the son of ErnestCallot (de) (1840-1912), insurance company director and founding member of the founding member of the International Olympic Committee. He is alsogreat-grandson of Pierre Simon Callot, mayor of La Rochelle between1830 and 1834, and grandson of Eugène Dor, mayor between 1879 and 1883.
