Japan 20th century Hasegawa Shoichi*Shoichi (Shōichi) Hasegawa (長谷川彰一) is a Japanese engraver and painter born in 1929 in Yaizu (Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan), died in February 2023 in Paris Shoichi Hasegawa is a major figure in contemporary engraving, having created a unique visual language where East meets West, calligraphy combines with abstraction, and color with poetry. We find in his works this signature — luminous backgrounds and delicate signs — which plunges us into a sensory and soothing imagination.
