Gilt Bronze Centerpiece, Empire Period, Early 19th Century, Attributed To Philippe Thomire
Gilt bronze table centerpiece, Empire period, early 19th century, attributed to Philippe Thomire (1751-1843).
Important table centerpiece in finely chased bronze gilded with mercury, resting on a circular base richly decorated with friezes featuring scrolls, foliage and antique attributes. The base is surmounted by three female figures draped in the antique style, arranged in the round, supporting an openwork bowl with neoclassical decoration.
The quality of the chasing, the purity of the lines and the balance of the composition testify to workshop work of the highest standard, characteristic of Parisian production in the early 19th century and close to the circle of Philippe Thomire.
The set retains its original gilding, of great freshness and remarkable brilliance. A first-rate decorative piece, both sculptural and architectural, emblematic of the Empire taste.
