"Pair Of Empire Bronze Candelabra, Attributed To Pierre-philippe Thomire "
A pair of exceptionally fine candelabra in patinated and mercury-gilt bronze, attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751–1843), the most prestigious bronze sculptor of the Empire period. The exquisite chasing, elegant composition, and perfect mastery of proportion clearly reflect the refined production of his workshop. Each candelabrum is supported by a winged Victory in patinated bronze, modeled with remarkable virtuosity and a profound sense of movement. The arms support a richly decorated lamp-shaped cup from which spring gilded flame-like arms of light—an emblematic motif of some of Thomire's most luxurious works. The finely guilloché drum, adorned with patinated bronze appliqués, rests on a fluted gilt-bronze base. The four mythological sphinxes framing the plinth reinforce the monumentality and architectural aesthetic typical of the Empire style. The piece demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship, worthy of the greatest achievements of early 19th-century French bronze work. Dimensions: – Height: 66 cm – Diameter: 23 cm
