Pair Of 19th Century Empire-style Armchairs With Ormolu Sphinxes
A pair of 19th-century mahogany armchairs, richly adorned with finely chased gilt bronzes and sphinx-shaped armrests. Created in the Empire style, they rest on front legs ending in ormolu lion's claws. The backrest and seat are covered in warm terracotta velvet, embellished with decorative braid.
The armchairs have benefited from a fine restoration and are presented in a very fine state of preservation, with a beautiful shine to the mahogany and well-preserved gilding. The contrast between the dark mahogany and the gilded bronze elements lends the ensemble a particularly decorative and monumental appearance.
