Christofle Six-compartment Carafe Holder With Putti, France, Late 19th Century

Artist: Christofle
An exceptional and rare six-bottle decanter holder in silver-plated bronze by Christofle, France, dating from the late 19th century.

Generously sized, this piece is crafted in an elegant Louis XVI style and exemplifies the high quality of workmanship for which Christofle is internationally renowned.

The richly ornamented rectangular structure features six circular compartments designed to hold bottles or decanters, each accented by a delicate beaded frieze. The upper section rests on remarkable, finely carved seated putti, lending the piece a particularly architectural and decorative character.

The lower shelf is edged with classical moldings and rests on elegant, scroll-shaped legs adorned with foliage. The front is centered by an oval medallion bearing an engraved antique monogram, surrounded by laurel branches and topped by an elegant ribbon bow.

The combination of the carved putti, the rich neoclassical decoration, the substantial proportions, and the quality of the silver-plated metal makes this piece a remarkable example of late 19th-century French decorative silverwork.

The piece bears Christofle’s hallmarks as well as manufacturing numbers.

A rare and particularly decorative piece, it can be displayed either as a decanter holder or as a true centerpiece on a table, a sideboard, or in a collector’s home.
