Reliquary Of The True Cross - 19th Century - Italy
True Cross pendant medallion - 19th century - Italy
Oval-shaped devotional reliquary, in sealed silver-plated metal
Description
The obverse presents, under glass, a neat composition on a red textile background, adorned with a cross formed of wooden fragments arranged in a Latin cross, surrounded by rays of gilded paperolles.
These elements correspond to a classic presentation of a relic of the True Cross (Ex Ligno Crucis).
The mounting is finely executed, with textile framing and radiant decoration, typical of 19th-century devotional production.
The reverse is closed with antique guarantee paper, held in place by crossed threads and sealed with an armorial/ecclesiastical red wax seal, ensuring the integrity of the reliquary.
Condition
Good overall state of preservation. Normal wear and tear on the metal and slight alterations to the closing paper, but no damage to the seal.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
