Tiv Ihambe Statue
Rare wedding statue from the Tiv, Nigeria, depicting a pair of male and female figures, back to back, resting on a kind of stool. The bodies are "muscular", the faces pronate with almond-shaped, sunken eyes. Scarification marks are present on both figures, typical of the Benue region (Nigeria). This type of object was carved and given to the bride and groom to celebrate their wedding. The wood used is dense and heavy. The patina of the object is black, with a certain sheen, showing in places the oxidation of the wood. The object is antique, certainly from the late 19th - early 20th century. This Tiv statue is authentic and has a very slight reattachment to the stool.
