"Dogon Statue"
Dogon statue, Mali, early 20th century, private collection (Toulouse). Ritual altar statue depicting a kneeling woman with her arms resting on her knees. It has a deep patina from libations, crusty in places, and is very old. The slightly figurative face suggests an affiliation with the Djennenké style. The object is authentic; two repairs are visible on the forearms (weakened by their thinness and age).
