Miniature Lantern Clock With Alarm, Early 18th Century, James Berrie, London.
Brass miniature lantern clock, early 18th century, 30 hours, with alarm. Signed "James Berrie, London" on the bow, it features a matte center with a single hand, a silvered alarm dial and hour ring, and spandrels decorated with foliage. Its verge escapement movement, with short pendulum and bell striking, is driven by a cord and a weight. Height: 23 cm.
Condition: As we are not watchmakers, we can provide no condition report, instructions or guarantee as to the operation of the movement. Therefore, it should be considered that the clock does not work and requires an overhaul. It has probably undergone restoration and replacement of movement components. The weights are missing.
Provenance: Estate of the late William John Thornton (1937-2025), of Groby, Leicestershire, an active member of the Antiquarian Horological Society, who gave several lectures to its members at Keble College, Oxford University.
