Napoleonic War Signed Autograph Letter From Marshal Soult To Marshal Berthier
A signed letter, on Empire Francais letterhead, dated 22 Prairial, Year 12 of the Republican Calendar (June 11, 1804), from Marshal Soult to Marshal Bethier, mentioning Generals Vendamme and Leclerc. Total framed size 42 cm x 32 cm, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Jean-Michel Genot.
The text of the letter appears to be:
Which we translate as:
"I have the honour of delivering to you, Monsieur le Maréchal, Minister, a letter that General Vandamme wrote to me, forwarding a request that General Leclerc is presenting to His Majesty the Emperor. I beg you to kindly receive it favourably by proposing for appointment by His Imperial Majesty the son of the latter General, for whom the records of service and recommendation memos have already been sent to you."
Note: We believe that either our reading or translation of the text may be slightly incorrect, as we can find no record of either General Vendamme or General Leclerc having had a son of an appropriate age.
