A small 18th-century Sevres porcelain coffee cup and saucer, the cup with a gilt-bordered panel decorated with the letter “R”, and garland above, in pink, blue, and yellow flowers, with pink and blue florets to either side, against a white ground. Above is a band of marbled blue between gilding. Below is a band of yellow between gilding. The saucer is decorated with a band of marbled blue between gilding, then a wide band of pink and blue florets against a white ground, then a band of yellow between gilding, with a garland of pink and blue flowers centrally.
Marks: Interlaced Ls with date letters “gg” for 1784. Triangle painter’s mark for Antoine Cappelle (act.1746-1795).
Measurements:
Cup: 6cm (2.4in) high, 5.5cm (2.2in) diameter at rim.
Saucer: 3cm (1.2in) high, 12cm (4.7in) diameter.
Condition: In excellent condition, with only light wear to the gilding at the rims and the sides of the handle.
